Golfstrømmen
Golfstrømmen er en af de stærkeste havstrømme. Det er en varm strøm, der stammer fra Mexicogolfen, som strømmer langs den østlige kyst af De Forenede Stater mod Canadas østkyst (Newfoundland).
Den bærer varmt vand fra Den Mexicanske Golf helt til Europa. Når dette varme vand kommer til Europa, strømmer det ind i Nordatlanten. Golfstrømmen gør dele af Europa, især skandinaviske lande, Storbritannien og Irland varmere, end de ville være uden tilstrømning af varmt vand fra syd.
