Ενδιαίτημα ή βιότοπος ορίζεται η περιοχή με συγκεκριμένους φυσικούς παράγοντες (όπως είναι η θερμοκρασία, η ποσότητα φωτός, η περιεκτικότητα σε νερό, τα ανόργανα άλατα) στα οποία υπάρχουν οργανισμοί, π.χ. το ενδιαίτημα των βακτηρίων πάνω σε έναν παγετώνα μπορεί να είναι κρυοκονίτες, παγετώδης πάγος ή ο πυθμένας του παγετώνα.
