Zero-curtain effekten

Det tidsrum, i hvilket en næsten konstant temperatur, meget tæt på frysepunktet, eksisterer under sin årlige frysning (og lejlighedsvis under optøning) af det aktive lag. når faseovergangen mellem vand og is (eller omvendt) forsinkes på grund af frigivelsen af den latente varme.

Disse perioder er defineret som den dato, hvor de gennemsnitlige daglige jordtemperaturer forbliver nær 0 ° C i et par dage; i mellemtiden varierer lufttemperaturen.

Analyse af termiske data fra et arktisk sted og en midtlig breddepunkt antyder, at fænomenet kan være et universelt kendetegn ved vådt, mellemstruktureret mineral og organisk jord under frysning.
