DNA

DNA (Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid) er vores krops fingeraftryk. Uden det ville vi ikke eksistere, det bestemmer en stor del af, hvordan vores krop fungerer.

DNA er konstrueret som en dobbelt helix, hvilket minder om en snoet stige. Trappens byggesten kaldes nucleotides og består af fosfater og et sukker molekyle (det navngivne deoxyribose) og en af fire baser, cytosine (C), guanine (G), adenine (A) og thymine (T).

Nucleotides danner par og former hver sin side af den snoede stige, således at A altid parres med T og C altid parres med G. Sekvensen af nucleotider langs stigen er en kode for specialiserede ”fabrikker” i vores celler, der oversættes til hvilke kropslige komponenter de skal producere.
