Corrente del Golfo

La corrente del Golfo è una delle più forti correnti oceaniche. È una corrente calda, proveniente dal Golfo del Messico, che scorre lungo la costa orientale degli Stati Uniti verso la costa orientale del Canada (Terranova).

Trasporta l’acqua calda dal Golfo del Messico fino in Europa. Quando questa acqua calda arriva in Europa, sfocia nella deriva del Nord Atlantico. La corrente del Golfo rende le parti dell’Europa, in particolare i paesi scandinavi, la Gran Bretagna e l’Irlanda più calde di quanto non sarebbero senza l’afflusso di acqua calda proveniente dal sud.
