Nautical polar night

Nautical polar night occurs at locations where the geometric centre of the Sun does not rise above 12 degrees below the horizon for at least 24 hours (there is no nautical twilight during the winter solstice). Around local noon, only astronomical twilight can be experienced. It occurs at the latitudes located 12 degrees north of the Arctic Circle and 12 degrees below the Antarctic Circle, which confines it to latitudes north of 78.56°N and south of 78.56°S.
