Óendurnýjanlegir orkugjafar myndast ekki eða endurnýja sig ekki á stuttum tíma og oft er alls ekki hægt að skipta þeim nógu hratt út til að halda í við notkunina. Óendurnýjanlegir orkugjafar eru til dæmis hráolía, náttúru gas, kol og úraníum. Óendurnýjanlegir orkugjafar er hægt að nota það mikið að þeir klárist til þurrðar.
