Corrente a getto
Correnti a getto sono i correnti relativamente stretti, flussi di venti molto forti che spostano le grandi masse d’aria da ovest ad est, colpendo i sistemi atmosferici di tutto il mondo.
Correnti a getto si circolano 9-16 km sopra la superficie della Terra, appena sotto la tropopausa. Si formano ai confini delle masse d’aria adiacenti con notevoli differenze di temperatura, come la regione polare e l’aria più calda a Sud.
Il cambiamento climatico influenza il corrente a getto, causando anomalie nella sua traiettoria. Quando il flusso del getto segue un percorso irregolare, “ondulato”, ci sono più fronti freddi che si innalzano a Sud dall’Artico a metà latitudini, portando le temperature basse che persistono per settimane (per esempio, inverni freddi e nevosi).
