Naledies

Naledies (icings) are masses of frozen water, developed as layered column ice as a result of consolidation of successive underground or surface water flows in the cold season of the year in the forefields of glaciers. The areal extent of naledies depends on amount of water migrating in the associated snow cover.

Their thickness increases by capillary absorption of a snow cover.
