Redfish/rockfish

Redfish is a bright red marine food fish found in North Atlantic waters.

In general, redfish species inhabit different depth strata in the ocean, although two or even three different species can occur together in catches.

The Norway redfish lives mostly in shallow waters, above 100 metres depth. The golden redfish is most common from about 100 metres to 400 metres depth. Further down, the deep sea redfish is most common from 500 to 700 meters depth. Above 500 m depth the oceanic redfish reigns.

Closely related species are found in the Pacific Ocean where they are called rockfishes as very few of them are actually red.
