Rødfisk

Rødfisk er en rød fødevarefisk i nordatlantiske farvande. Generelt, lever rødfisk i forskellige dybdelag i havet, selv om to eller endda tre forskellige arter kan forekomme sammen i fangsterne.

Den norske rødfisk lever primært i lavt vand, over 100 meters dybde. Den gyldne rødfisk er mest almindelig fra omkring 100 meter til 400 meters vanddybde. Dybere nede, er dybhavsrødfisken mest almindelig fra 500 meter til 700 meters dybde. I mere end 500 meters dybde hersker oceanske rødfisk.

Nært beslægtede arter findes i Stillehavet, hvor de kaldes for “rockfishes”, fordi meget få af dem er faktisk røde.
