Tropopausa

La tropopausa es una capa delgada de la atmósfera de la Tierra, de sólo 2-3 km de espesor, que se encuentra entre 12 y 14 km de altitud. Es la parte de la atmósfera donde la temperatura es estable y la más fría. Es la zona intermedia entre la troposfera inferior y la estratosfera superior.

El perfil de temperatura muestra que la tropopausa – entre 12 y 14 km sobre el nivel del suelo – es la parte más fría de la atmósfera.

La mayoría de los cirros (nubes formadas por cristales de hielo) se forman y evolucionan en la tropopausa.
