Tsunami Warning Systems

A tsunami warning system is built up by two important infrastructures: a system of sensors to detect tsunamis at sea and a system to quickly communicate any warnings.

Japan has experienced many severe tsunami events and has a regional warning system. There are 4 international tsunami warning systems for the world oceans of

  • the Pacific Ocean
  • the Indian Ocean
  • the North Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and connected seas
  • the Carribean
