Genetisk sammensætning

Gen er små proteiner, der afkoder hvad vi arvede fra vores forfædre, og de former for delvist alt, hvad vi er og gør. Hver enkelt person har et fast sæt gener, men sæt gener varierer mellem individer. Denne variation gør det nyttigt for os at tale om genetisk sammensætning.

Det vil sige, hvilke gener eksisterer i et individ, og hvor almindelige er de, hvis vi ser på alle individer af en art (eller en lokal bestand af en art). Hvis den genetiske sammensætning ændres, kan udviklingen ske.
