Hindcasting

Hindcasting er en proces til at teste computermodeller (fx klimaændringsmodeller) ved at have dem sammenlignet med de faktiske historiske observationer for at bestemme, hvor godt modellerne matchede historisk rekord. En model, der fejler historiskt, vil ikke producere realistiske modeller, så det kræver at parametrene ændres, så de passer bedre til observationerne. Hvis modellen matcher de observerede temperaturregistre, betyder det, at den svarer til observationerne og derfor er mere pålidelig.
