Istid

En istid er en periode, hvor klimaet bliver koldt med så lav temperatur, at der opbygges gletschere eller iskapper, som dækker et landskab.

Jorden har oplevet mange istider de sidste 2,6 millioner år. Når en istid slutter bliver klimaet varmere, og denne varme klimaperiode kaldes en mellemistid.

Den sidste istid, som ofte i Europa kaldes Weichsel, var koldest for omkring 22.000 år siden og sluttede for omkring 11.700 år siden.
