En mellemistid er en periode med varmt klima mellem to istider. De sidste 2,6 millioner år har været præget af store klimaændringer, hvor klimaet er vekslet mellem istider og mellemistider.
Vi lever i en mellemistid, som i Europa kaldes Holocæn. Denne periode med varmt klima begyndte for omkring 11.700 år siden da den sidste istid sluttede.
