Polar kredsløb
En satellit på et polær kredsløb passerer over polare områder af en planet under hver rotation. Der er mange polære baner, og de ligger mellem 100 og 1000 km over jordens overflade. En fuld rotation via satellit på en polar kredsløb er normalt kort – 1-3 timer.
Mange jordobservationssatellitter anbringes på polære kredsløb (fx Landsat-serien) såvel som International Space Station Alpha.
