Vildtlivsovervågning
De fleste brunbjørns populationer i Europa bliver overvåget. Overvågning betyder en regelmæssig optælling eller estimat af antallet af individer, der findes i den pågældende population. Dette tal er vigtigt for vildtlivsforvaltning, da det bruges som grundlag for beslutningstagninger, f.eks. vil der ske bevarelsesforanstaltninger, hvis populationen er for lav, eller der vil blive påsat en jagtkvote, hvis populationen er for høj. Det er vigtigt at have et forvaltningsskema til at tjekke om fortidens forvaltningsbeslutninger og handlinger har været succesfulde eller ej.
