Cryptochromes are receptors for blue and ultraviolet (UV-A) light, found in animals, plants an bacteria.
Those proteins are present e.g. in the eyes of migratory birds, possibly allowing birds to “see” the lines of the Earth’s magnetic field, which plays a role in navigating during migration.
