Benthic fish and animals
Benthic fish (also known as demersal) are fish that live on the bottom of seas or lakes.
The diversity of marine life is most obvious on the bottom where animals have adapted to a multitude of niches and with extremely diverse looks and behaviour. Some are buried in sediment all their life, while others are attached to stones or even other organisms. Some are slow and sluggish, while others roving and rapid.
Primitive animals like sponges, jellyfish, worms, squids, octopuses, crabs, lobsters, shrimps and sea stars, as well as fish like flathead, flounder, stingrays, cod and many others inhabit the sea floors.
