Traditional Sami music, a form of song which utilizes unique scale and vocalizations. It’s almost exclusively vocal (sometimes accompanied by drums). It has many social functions: sharing memories, community building (within a family and within society), for personal self-expression, to calm the reindeer or frighten the wolves. The singer can tell the story through words, melody, rhythm, expressions or gestures.
