Una banca dei semi è un deposito curato da esseri umani, destinato a preservare la diversità genetica in condizioni controllate. I semi vengono conservati in condizioni fredde e secche.
Gli obiettivi principali di una tale banca possono essere: garantire la sicurezza alimentare, adattarsi ai cambiamenti climatici, salvaguardare la biodiversità, proteggere la sicurezza nutrizionale, ridurre la povertà e garantire un’agricoltura sostenibile.
