En mellomistid en periode med varmt klima mellom to istider. Den kalles også en interglasial periode. De siste 2,6 millioner årene har jorden opplevd mange forandringer der klimaet har svingt mellom istider og mellomistider. Vi lever nå i en interglaciasjon, som i Europa heter Holocene. Denne perioden med varmt klima startet for 11.700 år siden da siste istid tok slutt.
