Smoltifisering
Smoltifisering er en utvikling hos fisk, som gjør det mulig for ung fisk å klare overgangen fra å leve i ferskvann til saltholdig sjøvann. Ordet «smolt» brukes om ungfisk-stadiet som er klar for vandringen til havet. En kjent artsgruppe som har smoltifisering er anadrome laksefisk. Smoltifisering innebærer både atferdsmessige og fysiologiske endringer. Den viktigste endringen er hvordan ion- og vannregulering skjer via nyrer og gjeller.
