Kriopeg
Kriopegi są soczewkami bardzo zimnych solanek lub warstwą nie zamarzniętego gruntu, który jest trwale kriotyczny (stanowiący część wieloletniej zmarzliny). Ich punkt zamarzania jest obniżony z powodu zawartości rozpuszczonej substancji stałej lub wody porowej.
Kriopegi stanowią jedyne siedlisko na Ziemi, które charakteryzuje się stałymi temperaturami ujemnymi, wysokim zasoleniem i izolacją od wpływu czynników zewnętrznych w czasie geologicznym. Kriopegi są siedliskiem dla mikroorganizmów takich jak bakterie.
