Skala czasu geologicznego (GTS) to system zbudowany przez datowanie chronologiczne, które wiąże stratygrafię z czasem. Nie jest to „kalendarz”, tylko podział historii Ziemi na różne okresy, które różnią się długością i są oparte na znaczących wydarzeniach, które tworzą pewnego rodzaju granice w skale. Skala czasu geologicznego jest podzielona na eony, ery, okresy i epoki.
