Stacioni i Samitit është në funksion që nga viti 1988. Ai ndodhet në majën e fletës së akullit të Grenlandës. Është e vetmja lartësi e lartë, gjerësi e gjerë, në brendësi, stacion vëzhgues gjatë gjithë vitit në Arktik.
Ai siguron njohuri unike në proceset klimatike të gjerë dhe globale të Arktikut dhe u përgjigjet pyetjeve të shkencës transformuese rreth rolit të fletës së akullit të Grenlandës në sistemin global të klimës.
