Prekid sedimentacije (hijatus) predstavlja vremenski interval koji nedostaje u geološkom stupu, bilo zbog toga što se ništa nije pohranilo ili su sedimenti koji su pohranjeni erodirani kasnije.
Hijatus se u geološkom stupu pojavljuje često. Prisutni sediment često prikazuju specifične događaje koji se mogu pojaviti samo jednom u svakih 100 ili 1000 godina.
