Orbita polarna
Orbita polarna to taki rodzaj orbity, na której satelita przelatuje nad obszarami okołobiegunowymi planety za każdym okrążeniem. Orbit polarnych jest bardzo wiele i mieszczą się na wysokościach od 100 do 1000 km nad powierzchnią Ziemi. Czas okrążenia takiej orbity jest krótki – wynosi około 1-3 godzin.
Na orbitach polarnych zawieszonych jest wiele satelitów obserwujących Ziemię (np. seria Landsat) jak również Międzynarodowa Stacja Kosmiczna Alfa.
