Lapp

Det finsk-ugerske sprog i det samiske folk, i det nordlige Finland, Sverige og Norge og på Kolahalvøen i Rusland, med ni særskilte dialekter, tales af omkring 25.000 mennesker. Seks af dem har standard skriftlige formularer. De samiske sprog indeholder mange skandinaviske og nogle russiske lånord. Lapp-sprog er officielt anerkendt som mindretalssprog i nogle regioner i Norge, Sverige og Finland.

En af Lapp dialekter – Ter Sámi – er næsten uddød. Den blev kun talt af 2 personer i 2010. Den britiske explorer Stephen Burrough udarbejdede et kort ordforråd af Ter Sámi i 1557. Dette var den første kendte dokumentation af et samisk sprog.
