Polar luft

En form for kold luftmasse, der dannes over land eller vand i højere breddegrad, inden for de subpolare højder, især udbredt i det sene efterår, vinter og tidlig forår.
Kontinental polar luft (cP) har lavt fugtindhold på overfladen. Maritime polar luft (mP) har i første omgang lignende egenskaber som for den kontinentale polære luft, men ved at passere over varmere vand bliver det ustabilt med et højere fugtindhold. Denne luftmasse er berygtet for at producere tåge, regnvejr, overskyet vejr og langvarigt lys til moderat regn.
