Højere planter

Højere planter, også kendt som karplanter, er en stor gruppe planter, der har vaskulær væv (med årer) som fordeler næringsstofferne gennem planten. Denne funktion gør det muligt for karplanter at udvikle sig til en større størrelse end ikke-karplanter (også kendt som lavere planter). Højere planter er meget sjældne i havet.

Groft sagt, omfatter dette udtryk alle planter, der kan “plantes”; træer, buske, blomstrende urter, bregner og bregne-slægtningen. Men mos-lignende planter og grønne alger er tættere beslægtet med højere planter end til det store udvalg af andre lavere planter, som de ofte grupperes med.
