Ornitogene jordarter

Jord med en masse organisk materiale, der er rigt på kulstof, nitrogen og fosfor, der stammer fra affald fra store søfuglekolonier, som alkekonge. Affaldet er snavs, fjer, æggeskaller og døde fugle, der fører til dannelse af ornitogene jordarter. I Antarktis kan ornitisk jord også stamme fra pingvinkolonier. Det nærende affald giver gode levevilkår for andre organismer, og det er ofte klart, hvordan vegetationen er grønnere under fuglekolonierne.
