Hielo Compacto

El hielo compacto es una variedad de hielo marino que no está adherido a una orilla o línea costera y que es capaz de producir un movimiento y una deformación sustanciales. El hielo compacto es hielo marino que no es hielo rápido. En el Ártico, el hielo en mantillo se somete a un ciclo estacional regular en el que el hielo se derrite durante la primavera y el verano, alcanza una extensión mínima alrededor de mediados de septiembre, luego aumenta durante el otoño y el invierno antes de alcanzar una extensión máxima alrededor de mediados de marzo.
