Plateforme de glace

La plateforme de glace est une variété de glace de mer non attachée à un rivage ou à un littoral capable de mouvement et de déformation importants, ce qui signifie que la glace de mer n’est pas une glace rapide. Dans l’Arctique, la banquise subit un cycle saisonnier régulier dans lequel la fonte des glaces au printemps et en été atteint au moins jusqu’à la mi-septembre, puis augmente pendant l’automne et l’hiver avant d’atteindre son extension maximale vers la mi-mars.
