Pólbraut
Gervitungl sem eru á pólbraut hringsóla yfir norðlægu svæði jarðarinnar. Það eru margar pólbrautir og eru þær staðsettar á milli 100 og 1000 km frá yfirborði jarðar. Hringsól gervitunglanna á pólbrautunum er yfirleitt stutt eða um það bil ein til þrjár klukkustundir.
Mörg gervitungl eru staðsett á pólbrautunum (t.d. Landsat kerfið) sem og Alþjóða geimstöðin (International Space Station Alpha).
