Volummetoden er en direkte og svært enkel metode for måle hastigheten på vannføring i elver. Det er nok å plassere en beholder med et kjent volum under vannutløpet for å fange alt det vannet som strømmer ut der, samtidig som man tar tiden før beholderen er fylt med vann.
