Tropopauza
Tropopauza to stosunkowo cienka warstwa atmosfery ziemskiej, (2-3 km grubości), na wysokości 12-14 km nad Ziemią. To część atmosfery, w której temperatura jest stabilna i najniższa (por. rysunek). Jest to strefa pośrednia pomiędzy troposferą (poniżej) a stratosferą (powyżej).
Większość chmur typu cirrus (chmury utworzone z kryształków lodu) formule się i ewoluuje w tropopauzie.
