Wildlife forensic

The term ‘forensic’ refers to the application of science to solve criminal investigation. ‘Wildlife forensic’ thus means the application of science (often DNA analysis) in order to help solve criminal investigation into illegal wildlife trade, illegal hunting and other unlawful conduct involving wild animal and plants.

Photo: Burning of ivory from illegally hunted elephants. DNA analyses of the ivory are used in wildlife forensic to track where the crime occured. This makes it easier to find the pouchers.
