Biom

Biom er en biologisk enhed, der indtager en stor del af jordens overflade og er kendetegnet ved homogene egenskaber. Det er et stort område med et lignende klima med sin karakteristiske vegetation og dyreverden. Den typiske biomasse omfatter taiga, tundra, savanne, ørkener, stepper, tropiske skove, nåletræskove, løvskove og i dag også gletsjere. Individuelle biomer adskilles af overgangszoner af forskellige bredder.
