Satellit

En satellit er et navn på ethvert objekt, der kredser rundt om en planet. Satellitter kan opdeles i naturlige – dem, der blev dannet naturligt – og kunstige – satellitter skabt af mennesker. Ordet satellit er hovedsagelig brugt til at henvise til de kunstige.

Den første satellit var Sputnik, der blev sendt til Sovjetunionen i 1957. I dag er der tusindvis af satellitter på mange baner. De bruges til telekommunikation, positionering (GPS), videnskabelige eksperimenter og billeddannelse af jordoverfladen.
