Troposfæren

Troposfæren er den del af Jordens atmosfære, der ligger mellem Jordens overflade og op til ca. 14 km højde. Det er den del af atmosfæren, hvor temperaturen falder pludselig med øget højde.

I figuren forneden, den nederste del af temperaturprofilet, fra Jordens overflade til 14 km højde, observeres et fald i temperatur med højden.

Varme luftmasser i troposfæren har tendens til at stige op mod koldere og mindre tætte luftmasser foroven og dermed nedkøle, mens koldere luftmasser har tendens til at falde ned og dermed blive opvarmet. Dette fører til, at luften konstant blandes sammen ved alle højder i troposfæren.
