Arktisk tåge

Lag af brunlig tåge synlige over horisonten. Dette fænomen forekommer jævnligt om foråret i høje breddegrader (over 70 N). Det er resultatet af transport af dråber produceret af vulkaner, støvstorm og menneskeskabte forurening fra uden for Arktis – hovedsagelig fra Europa, Asien og Nordamerika. I modsætning til almindelig tåge i lavere breddegrader varer arktisk tåge meget længere, op til uger. Partikler der falder på is og sneoverflade forårsager en positiv tilbagekoblingssløjfe; det resulterer i albedo reduktion og stigning i energibalancen. Af denne grund har klimaændringerne i Arktis været ekstremt hurtige de seneste år.
