Hefðbundin samísk tónlist, eða tegund söngs þar sem einstakur skali og raddnotkun er notuð. Það er næstum eingöngu raddað (stundum notað með trommum). Söngurinn hefur mikið félagslegt gildi og ólík hlutverk: til að deila minningum, til að styrkja samfélagið (innan fjölskyldu eða samfélagsins), til eigin persónusköpunar, til að róa hreindýr eða til að hræða úlfa. Söngvarinn getur sagt söguna í gegnum orðin, lagið, taktin, tjáninguna eða túlkunina.
