En gruppe virvelløse dyr som består av rundt 45.000 arter over hele verden. De er akvatiske eller amfibiske leddyr med hardt skall og ledda lemmer, f.eks. krabbe, reker og krill. De er en svært viktig del av arktiske næringsnett som en del av dyreplankton.
