Forvirringseffekt er en evolusjonær tilpasning hos noen dyr. Den brukes først og fremst av flokkdyr. Ved å være del av en stor gruppe er det mindre sannsynlig at akkurat du blir plukket ut av et rovdyr. På den annen side er det lettere for rovdyr å oppdage en større flokk.
