Bezkręgowce
Bezkręgowce to zwierzęta, które nie posiadają szkieletu wewnętrznego (w odróżnieniu od kręgowców, których rdzeń kręgowy otoczony jest chrzęstnym bądź kostnym kręgosłupem). Do bezkręgowców należą owady, kraby, homary, ślimaki, małże, ośmiornice, rozgwiazdy, jeżowce i robaki (np. płazińce czy obleńce).
Bezkręgowce zdecydowanie dominują ilościowo w królestwie zwierząt. Szacuje się, że stanowią 97% wszystkich zwierząt.
